New Kecks On the block

New Kecks On the block

London Rae Snuggs

When I imagined my wedding, I always pictured it would be a commitment ceremony to myself (including a cake in the shape of my face and glow sticks everywhere). That is, until Austin came along. I've made him realize that Ariel is in fact the best Disney princess and that life isn't worth living without snacks. He's constantly impressed by my wit and appalled at my driving.

I'm taking a break from my dream of becoming a professional bridesmaid to plan our wedding and coach Varsity Cheerleading at Charlotte Christian School. I also daylight as a marketing specialist in Charlotte.

If you're wondering why this entire website is explained from my point of view, then you aren't very familiar with this relationship. I do about 75 percent of the talking, and Austin seems to be okay with it.

Austin Charles Keck

Austin is "the good one," hands down. He got this name because when compared to A.J. and myself, he looks like a solid prospect for the Nobel Peace Prize. He will tell you that he's loved me since he first laid eyes on me, but I'm about 99 percent sure that's a lie. However, there is no question that his first impression of me was that I'm high maintenance (and he wasn't wrong). He's slowly but surely teaching me what all of the lights in my car mean and always enables my love of cheetah print.

When he isn't listening to the musical sound of my voice, he's working at H&K Autobody in Albemarle, NC. I love his work ethic, but wish he would stop screening all of my calls during the work day.

Love & Left Turns

Love & Left Turns

Ours is not a story about love at first sight (no matter what Austin tells you). After being friends of a friend for several years, Austin was pressured into asking me on a date. Our first date was at the Bank of America 500 NASCAR race in Charlotte. I was mentally prepared with outfits for a nice dinner, or even a movie, but the race sent me spiraling.

I googled what one wears to a NASCAR race and was directed to a "Racing Mamas" blog. These women recommended wearing multiple pairs of socks (for long walks), hiking boots, jean shorts and tank tops. This really stressed me out, and shockingly, there isn't a blog that answers the question: "I'm new to NASCAR, going on a first date and want to look cute, what do I wear?"

Once I settled on something that was slightly less 'Racing Mama' and slightly more me, the nerves didn't quiet down. However, everything turned out perfectly. I like to think that the relationship continued after that first date because it's hard to do a lot of talking when cars are racing by every five seconds. Austin had no idea what was in store for him.

The Engagement

The Engagement

If you know me, you know I love to read. During the Keck family trip to New York City, the one item on my must-see list was the New York Public Library. Naturally, the NYPL was the first stop on our trip, which should have been a sign. Oddly enough, the NYPL, doesn't have a lot of books just sitting around, which is a little counter-intuitive. However, Austin still made it work.

He pulled out a Kate Spade book clutch with'Marry Me' written all over it and got down on one knee. By this time, other tourists were starting to gather around (aka taking photos and video). I obviously said yes, but was a little sad that my parents weren't in New York for the momentous occasion.

After leaving the library, we rejoined Austin's entire family at Bookmarks Lounge (are you sensing a theme here?) for a pre-dinner celebration. Again, I was beyond ecstatic, but felt like something was missing because my parents weren't with us. But, let's get serious, Austin has this under control. A few minutes after sitting down, I look up and see Gay and Mitch walking into the lounge, which made me bawl my eyes out. I couldn't have envisioned a more perfect or special day for our engagement and am so thankful to everyone who helped make it a reality... and keep it a secret.
